Midsummer in the Chemistry Kitchen
The Kitchen Chemist has been busy for the last few months. My shows have mainly, but not exclusively, been about Kitchen Chemistry. Since returning from Scifest I have been busy with visits to University of the Third Age (U3A) groups. The U3A is active all over the UK and allows the more senior of the population to continue to be involved in education and interesting events. The U3A has a website where one is able to get a flavour of the organisation and search for local groups. I have visited the Blackthorne, East Suffolk, Stour Valley, Hadleigh and Great Yarmouth groups.

I was also asked to do a couple of shows for the Salters’ Festivals of Chemistry which were held at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in May. The Salters’ Institute stages these competitions for Year 7 and 8 school pupils around the country. I provided the entertainment (at UEA) while the competition is being judged and the results decided.

Red Oak Primary School in Lowestoft asked me to contribute to their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) day this year. That saw me putting on four shows in a day for classes of very enthusiastic and lively schoolchildren.

The other groups that I visited in the last months were the Sanisbury’s Veterans Association, the Probus Group in the Chet Valley and the Thorpe Over 50’s club.

I have to say that I am looking forward to my summer break and after that, more adventures in Africa.
