Kitchen Chemistry at the ASDC 2023

The Kitchen Chemist was a conference delegate at the 2023 edition of the annual conference of the Association of the Science and Discovery Centres. The conference took place at the W5 discovery centre in Belfast. The name comes from the five question words, Who, What, Where, When, and Why. Although I didn’t have the opportunity to play the visitor I got the impression that it was a very impressive centre, and probably worth a visit if you are ever in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast.

My contribution to the conference was to talk about the Umjikelezo We-Science partnership that I am involved with in South Africa. Umjikelezo We-Science aims to bring science centre, and museum experiences to communities who would not normally be able to, or even consider to go to Science Centres or Museums. In fact, many of the science centres presenting at the conference were explaining how they were force to get out of their usual premises, some by fire damage, others but loss of premises, and others as a result of coronavirus.

My route from conference to accommodation took me past some of the other Belfast landmarks, such as the Town Hall.
